Joe Biden has made a big announcement for the US presidency.  He has made it clear that he will contest the 2024 presidential election.  He previously defeated Donald Trump in 2020 and was sworn in as president in January  Vice President Kamala Harris is also said to be running for the post again.
Biden called on Americans to re-elect him to save democracy and finish the job.  Democrat Biden, 80, made the announcement in a three-minute campaign video.  Biden argues that abortion rights, protecting democracy, voting rights and social security mechanisms will be among the most important issues in the 2024 elections.
"Every generation of Americans has faced a moment when they have to defend democracy, stand up for our individual freedoms and stand up for our voting rights and our civil rights," he said.
In the video, Biden described the 2024 election as a fight against Republican extremism.  He said he needed more time to fully realize his resolve to restore the character of the nation.  When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were fighting for the soul of America and we are fighting now.
