SC on Child Care Leave: Given the importance of child care leave for mothers of disabled children, the Supreme Court on Monday said equal participation of women in the workforce is a matter of constitutional duty.  A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala said denying Child Care Leave (CCL) to mothers of children with disabilities of this constitutional duty to ensure equal participation of women in the workforce, the Bar and Bench reported  There will be a violation.
The Supreme Court Bench ruled,"We are of the view that the petition raises a serious matter of concern. The petitioner has raised the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. The Commissioner has indicated in the affidavit that no policy of CCL has been framed. The participation of women in the workforce is not a matter of privilege but a constitutional requirement and the state as a model employer cannot be oblivious to it.''
