The auction process for the first edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) was held on 13 February.  All five franchises added several young players to their squads, including veteran female players.  Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced former tennis player Sania Mirza as the mentor of its women's team.
Sania Mirza said goodbye to tennis after the recently concluded Australian Open.  He reached the final of the mixed doubles tournament along with Rohan Bopanna.  She lost to Brazil's Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos.
"I was a little surprised when I was asked about the role but I am very excited about it," Mirza told RCB after joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore team as a mentor.  I want to convince young girls that they can also pursue sport as a career.  I want to instill in the next generation the belief that no matter how many people are against you, you will achieve your goals if you focus on them.
