Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), in collaboration with the Keyi Panyor district administration, has initiated the development of India’s first “Bio-Happy District” in Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative reflects Dr. M.S. Swaminathan’s ecological philosophy, which places biodiversity at the centre of human well-being, livelihoods, and nutrition.

Bio-happiness denotes a form of well-being derived from harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. It emphasises that biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, food security, and public health are interlinked, moving beyond GDP-centric development to well-being–centred growth.
