Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, marking the first anniversary of his government, described the policy providing one percent reservation in education and jobs for orphaned children as "historic." Fadnavis said the policy is a major step towards social justice and equality of opportunity. He introduced the policy during his first term as Chief Minister in 2018.
CM Fadnavis said the policy is based on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's principle of equal opportunity. He stressed that equality should not be limited to social reservations alone, but should be seen as equality of opportunity.
