The Golden Arrow Division of the Indian Army has opened the historic Ferozepur Fort to the public. The said fort was closed for the last 200 years, which people can now visit every Sunday from 9 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 7 pm. Ferozepur Fort, located near the India-Pakistan border, was built in the 19th century during the Sikh Empire. The fort is a remarkable example of military architecture.
Its unique hexagonal design and strong defensive features reflect the strategic ingenuity of its time. Once an important outpost in the frontier defense network of the Sikh Empire, the fort boasts enduring stories of courage and resistance and also features prominently in the narratives of the First War of Independence of 1857. Ferozepur Fort and its surrounding areas have witnessed important historical events, which remain a symbol of national pride and sacrifice.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at the fort on Sunday. Major General RS Manral, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division, Brigadier Bikram Singh, Station Commander and Chairman, Cantonment Board were present on the occasion. The ceremony was attended by senior civil and military officials, local villagers and students from nearby schools and colleges.
