The Uturuncu volcano in Bolivia's Sur Lípez province, which has been dormant for 250,000 years, has become active. Scientists have detected activity in magma chambers deep beneath the volcano, where lava and gas are slowly rising to the surface.

Uturuncu is called a 'zombie' volcano because it is technically dormant, but still shows signs of life. Its last eruption was 250,000 years ago, but in recent decades it has been active with seismic activity and gas emissions - activities that are normally worrisome for a volcano.
