Supreme Court on Air Pollution: The Supreme Court has ordered an immediate ban on burning of crop residue.  The court has said that the governments of Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan and Delhi should stop this immediately.  The local police station incharge (SHO) should be made accountable for this.
The court has specifically targeted the Delhi government and said that instead of taking necessary steps to control pollution, it is doing cosmetic work like odd-even.  The Supreme Court has said that it will hear the matter again on Friday.  Till then the Center and the State should take concrete action on this.
The bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia said that every year in the month of October-November, the people of Delhi are forced to breathe poisonous air.  Apart from other reasons, burning of stubble is especially responsible for this.  This situation cannot be allowed to continue forever.
