The 18-year-old daughter of a naval officer has become the youngest Indian to reach the South Pole by skiing. The Indian Navy congratulated Kamya Karthikeyan in a post on X.
The Navy said, "Battling temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius and gale-force winds, Kamya covered a distance of approximately 60 nautical miles (about 115 km) from 89 degrees south, pulling a sledge laden with her entire expedition gear, and reached the South Pole on December 27, 2025." The Navy also shared a video and some photographs of her pulling the sledge.
The post said, "The Indian Navy congratulates Kamya Karthikeyan, 18-year-old daughter of a naval officer and a former student of Navy Children School, who has once again created history by becoming the youngest Indian and the second youngest woman in the world to ski to the South Pole."
