Two incidents of security lapse took place today in the Parliament House, considered the safest in the country.  First, two people protested outside the Parliament and second, two people sitting in the audience gallery jumped into the middle of the House during the proceedings in the Lok Sabha.  When two suspects jumped into the house, some smoke appeared in the house.  However, the suspects in both the incidents have been detained by the security personnel and are being interrogated.

This happened under the protection of Parliament on the day when it is the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attack on the temple of democracy.  22 years ago on this day i.e. December 13, 2001, there was a terrorist attack on Parliament, in which nine people including security personnel were killed and 18 people were injured.  It was fortunate that no MP became their target.

The day was 13 December 2001.  Winter session was going on in Parliament.  The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned at 11:02 am due to uproar during the debate on the Women's Reservation Bill.
For this reason, many ministers including the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and opposition leader Sonia Gandhi had left the Parliament House, but more than 100 VIPs including  then Home Minister of the country Lal Krishna Advani, Pramod Mahajan, many ministers, MPs and journalists were present inside the Parliament House.
The clock was about 11:30.  The security guards of Vice President Krishna Kant were waiting for him to come out.  Then a white Ambassador car with fake sticker of the Home Ministry entered the Parliament House from Gate No. 12.  There was a cache of weapons in the car and five terrorists were sitting there.  When the car moved ahead, suddenly the security personnel noticed something strange and they ran after that Ambassador car.  Meanwhile, the vehicle of the terrorists collided with the parked car of the Vice President.  Panicked, the terrorists started firing indiscriminately.  The terrorists had AK-47, pistol and hand grenade, whereas at that time the security guards were unarmed.
