Sahara India Group chief Saharashri Subrata Roy Sahara passed away on Tuesday.  He breathed his last in Mumbai.  He was ill for a long time.  Sahara family head Saharashree Subrata Roy was suffering from serious illness for a long time.  He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Mumbai.  His mortal remains will be brought to Sahara city in Lucknow on Wednesday, where tributes will be paid to him.  Veterans of business and political world have expressed grief over Rai's demise.
Subrata Roy Sahara was born on 10 June 1948.  He was a leading businessman of India and the founder of Sahara India Parivar.  He was also known as 'Saharashree' across the country.  Born in Araria district of Bihar, Subrata Roy completed his primary education from Holy Child School, Kolkata.  After this he did Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Government Technical Institute, Gorakhpur.

 Sahara India Parivar established in 1978::
 Saharashree started its business in the year 1978 from Gorakhpur and established the Sahara India family.  In 2012, India Today magazine included Subrata Roy among the 10 richest people of India.  Today Sahara Group is playing a leading role in various sectors like housing, entertainment, media, retail and financial services.  According to a report, Sahara Group had assets worth about Rs 1,09,224 crore as of June 2010.  According to the Forbes list, Rai was the richest person in the country in terms of personal wealth.  Rai, who is counted among the business giants of the country, had a total wealth of about 3 billion dollars (Rs 24882 crore).
