A video purportedly featuring actress Rashmika Mandanna has sparked controversy on the internet.  If you watch this video, you will not be able to guess that the girl in the video is not Rashmika Mandanna, but this video has been tampered with.  Actually it is a 'deepfake' of Rashmika Mandanna.  Perhaps no one would be ready to accept this, but in simple words, with the help of AI, Rashmika Mandanna's face has been swapped on a woman's body in the video.
Deepfake AI is a type of artificial intelligence used for hard image, audio and video fraud.  Deepfakes often alter existing source material where one person is replaced by another.  They appear real but in reality they are a trick of your eyes.  Nowadays, they are being used extensively on Instagram and other social media platforms.  For example, swapping the face of a person present in a normal video and replacing it with the face of a celebrity or politician.
Deepfakes can be very dangerous.  The reason is that this starts spreading false information, which is being used in crimes not only in the country but all over the world.  For example, in the year 2022, a deepfake video was released of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky asking his troops to surrender.
