Attorney General R Venkataramani has filed his reply in the Supreme Court before the hearing on the challenge to the electoral bond system created for giving donations to political parties. The senior lawyer of the Central Government has said that it is not the fundamental right of the citizens to get information about the donations received by any political party. Therefore, the system of electoral bonds cannot be rejected by saying that people are not able to get information about the donations given through it.
'No right to get information about donations'::
The Constitution Bench of 5 judges headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will start hearing from Tuesday, October 31. The Supreme Court had asked the Attorney General to give his opinion in the matter.
The Attorney General said, “This system made to give grants to political parties is a policy matter. The Supreme Court interferes in any law only when it is violating the fundamental or legal rights of the citizens. This cannot be said in this case. On the contrary, forming and running an organization is a fundamental right under Article 19 (1) (c) of the Constitution.
