One Nation One Election: The Narendra Modi government at the Center is in action regarding One Nation One Election i.e. one country one election.  The government has already formed a committee in this regard.  Now another meeting of this committee is being held in New Delhi on Wednesday under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind.  Law Commission Chairman Ruturaj Awasthi is also present along with the committee members.  The role of the Law Commission is important in the suggestions of the committee because the Law Commission has already given many suggestions to the Law Ministry and the Central Government regarding One Country One Election.  The current central government has been wanting a debate on One Country One Election for a long time, but the Law Commission has made the government aware of the technical and constitutional challenges in implementing it as soon as possible.
Actually, Law Commission is not a constitutional institution.  It is the part of the executive which assists the Law Ministry.  It is a part of the Government of India.  It is formed by the orders of the Government of India and it advises the Ministry.  However, the main function of the Commission is to recommend legal reforms.  It studies and researches on many subjects and also makes recommendations to the government to amend laws or make new laws.  The members of the commission are mainly experts in the field of law.  It includes judges/former judges, lawyers, jurists and experts in other relevant fields.  At present, former High Court judge Ruturaj Awasthi is the chairman of the Law Commission.
