The number of deaths after this natural disaster is constantly increasing. More than 2,000 people have lost their lives so far. Relief and rescue work continues 48 hours after the quake. The death toll could rise. Thousands of injured have been admitted to hospitals.
Hundreds of buildings have collapsed, leaving thousands homeless. According to Al Jazeera, Morocco has declared 3 days of national mourning. King Mohammed VI there has directed the armed forces to deploy a special search and rescue team and a surgical field hospital, according to a statement from the Moroccan army.
