Six accused in SCERT scam granted bail

Six accused in the Rs 105 crore SCERT scam led by Shewali Devi Sharma and her son- in-law were granted bail today.  The six accused were granted bail by the state special judge.
 The six accused were identified as Bhaskar Jyoti Hazarika, Keshav Gogoi, Sonmani Nath, Jay Chandra Lahkar, David Adhikari and Chareng Mor.  They were granted bail on a deposit of Rs 50,000 and two sureties.
 The court also rejected the bail of two other accused, Ajay Pal Singh and Rajesh Kumar Joshi.  The CM's Monitoring Cell has already filed a full chargesheet in the special court in connection with the SCERT scam.  The chargesheet, which is 1,433 pages long, convicted a total of 21 accused.
 The 21 convicts included six government employees including IAS Shewali Devi and 10 people including five contractors.  The 10 people include journalists and RTI activists.
 A departmental inquiry was also announced against six government employees.  The Rs 105 crore scam took place when Sewali Devi Sharma was the Director of SCERT.  The scam was led by Shewali Devi Sharma and her  son-in-law.
 After the CM Vigilance arrested Shewali Devi Sharma from Rajasthan, it came to light how leaders of various parties, organisations, journalists and others were involved in the scam.  The CM Vigilance arrested journalists Pooja Mani Das, Bhaskarjyoti Hazarika, RTI activist Rabijit Gogoi and Anup Shaikia on the basis of information provided by Shewali Devi Sharma.
