Pakistan PM Shehbaz sharif: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif may step down on Wednesday (August 9).  His coalition government is poised to dissolve Pakistan's National Assembly prematurely.  Pakistan is scheduled to hold general elections later this year.  The coalition government needs more time for this.
The five-year term of the lower house of parliament expires on August 12.  However, Prime Minister Sharif can still dissolve it on August 9.  For this, he will first meet and consult with President Arif Alvi.  If the President evades his advice, Parliament will be dissolved within 48 hours of the PM's decision.
Prime Minister Sharif paid his farewell visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Tuesday (8 August), which was considered a milestone in his tenure as prime minister, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.  The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by Army Chief General Asim Munir as the visit was dedicated to emotional ceremonies and tributes to the martyred heroes of the country.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government may have to dissolve parliament on August 11 in any case if it wants to stay in power for a few more days.
