Violence broke out in Manipur on Wednesday during the tribal agitation, which spread to eight districts. Now, in view of the violent atmosphere in Manipur, orders have been issued to shoot the rioters in the affected areas.
Manipur's Governor has approved the state government's decision to shoot down rioters on sight in violence-hit areas. Earlier, Section 144 was imposed in the violence-hit areas. Internet has also been shut down in the state for the next five days.
There are 34 companies of Assam Rifles and 9 companies of Army deployed in Manipur. Besides these, the Home Ministry has also deployed five companies of Rapid Action Force to Manipur. However, despite this, the riots in Manipur are not abating.
Seven and a half thousand people have reportedly been evacuated so far. Curfew has been imposed in eight districts - Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnaupal. In addition, mobile internet has been shut down for the next five days across the state. However, broadband services will continue.
