Deepa Karmakar wins Gold at Asian Championships: First Indian gymnast to bring gold in Asia

Deepa Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to win the Asian Championships.  Karmaker won the gold medal at the Asian Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent on Sunday.  Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to win gold in an Asian gymnastics event.
Deepa was eighth in the qualification stage with a score of 12.650.  Deepa scored an overall score of 13.566 in her two attempts in the final.  Deepa was followed by two North Koreans, Kim Son Hyang (13.466, after a penalty of 0.100) and Jo Kyeong Byol (12.966) with scores of second and third.
 Deepa was not included in the Indian squad for the Asian Games last year.
